Tip 5: Don't feel obliged to do "the wedding march"!

In the past weddings were very formalized, there was a specific way that everything had to be done. Most of these rules have been handed down to use by tradition. However there is no requirement that you actually stick to these traditions. Many people are choosing to go with weddings that are non-traditional. One of the things that a lot of people are changing is the wedding march. Some people are eliminating it altogether while others are changing the way that they do it. Really there are no rules so you can do it however you feel most comfortable.

There is really no reason that you have to do the wedding march when you are getting married. Tradition is one thing but these days more and more people are opting for a less traditional wedding. That means that if you want to do the wedding march feel free but if you don’t want to do it there is no reason that you have to. A lot of people feel silly doing the wedding march so they simply skip it. The choice is yours, there really aren’t any rules when it comes to your wedding you should do it in a way that makes you feel comfortable.

If you decide that you want to do the wedding march there is no requirement that you do it in the traditional way. Normally the wedding march is done by having the groom and the groomsmen waiting with the minister while the bridesmaids and then the bride walk down the aisle. Although this is the traditional way to do it there is no reason why you can’t do it differently if you want to. A lot of couples choose to walk down the aisle together, others will have the groomsmen and bridesmaids walk down the aisle together. The choice is yours and you can do it however you want.

There is also the issue of the music for the wedding march; again you aren’t required to stick to tradition. Wagner’s Bridal Chorus is the traditional song that is used when the bride walks down the aisle. Many people continue to use this as the song for the wedding march but others feel that it is a bit overdone. Often they prefer to use a different song for their wedding march. You can pick anything that you want but it is a good idea to choose a song that is cheerful, it is a happy occasion after all. You are also going to want to pick a song that has a good tempo to march. If it is too fast or too slow you are going to find that the wedding march becomes awkward. This is something that you should practice before the wedding to make sure that the song you have chosen is one that you can march to comfortably.
