For most people one of the most important parts of a wedding is the cake. The wedding cake is the center piece of the reception so it is important that you spend the time to make sure that you get the right cake. There are quite a few decisions that need to be made when it comes to wedding cakes. There are a lot more options available than there used to be so there are a lot more decisions that need to made.

The first thing that you need to keep in mind about your wedding cake is that you can get any kind of cake that you want. Traditionally a wedding cake is tiered and white but this is really no longer the case. You can get anything that you want so you are going to want to work with your baker. The first decision that you are going to need to make is the size of the cake, this will largely be determined by the number of guests that you have at the wedding. Your baker can help you with this decision. The next thing that you are going to have to think about is the design that you want. Again the baker should be able to help you with this but it would be a good idea to have some ideas on mind when you go in. You are also going to need to decide on the flavor for the cake, again the sky is the limit so you can choose whatever kind you want.

The big decision that you are going to have to make is the baker that you are going to go with. It is a good idea to ask to see a portfolio of the bakers previous work; this will help to give you an idea of the skill of the baker. If you want a custom design for your cake you are going to have to make sure that the baker you choose is willing and able to do this. You also want to taste the different types of cakes that the baker offers; there is no point in having a nice looking cake if it doesn’t taste good.

When you are selecting a baker you are also going to have to address the practical issues. The biggest is how far in advance you need to order the cake. A wedding cake is not the sort of thing that you order at the last minute, your baker will likely need you to order it a few months in advance. You are also going to need to find out if the baker will deliver and set up the cake and how much this is going to cost. Your caterer probably won’t do this if you order the cake through somebody else so you need to know how the cake is going to be delivered and set up.
